Auditability as a design property, not a procedure
Clinical and research organisations are judged on whether they can show what happened and who authorised it. That depends on whether the system can still show the past, not on what the policy says it should do.
What the sector is up against
Proving what the record said
Regulators and ethics boards ask what was known at a point in time. Systems that edit records in place can describe the present and nothing else.
Access that must be narrow and provable
Who may see which patient, which cohort, which site — and evidence that the rule held, not an assurance that it was configured.
Research tools that never became enterprise software
An annotation or imaging tool works, but has no tenancy, no permission model and no audit trail, so it cannot be used on real data.
Procurement and grant accounting
Spend has to be attributable to a study, a department and a funder at once, which a single chart of accounts cannot express.
